It’s the right for a housing association tenancy to be passed on when a tenant passes away. It is known as a succession.
A succession can only happen once. If somebody succeeds to a tenancy, they cannot pass it on to anybody else.
Your right to inherit or succeed to a tenancy depends on the type of tenancy and your relationship with the person who died
If you're a joint tenant and the other joint tenant passes away, you'll be the sole tenant unless the joint tenancy was ended.
If a sole tenant dies, and you think you're entitled to succeed the tenancy, you need to make an application with supporting documentation. Whether you're entitled to succeed will depend on the type of tenancy and the date it began.
