Energy works case study: Moss Rose, Macclesfield
We're working with our customers to make our homes greener. In this bungalow, we installed a new consumer unit, amongst other works - see the positive impact this has made.
Talking with our customer
We recently talked to one of our customers about their experience with the energy works in his home. We're targeting homes with the lowest energy efficiency ratings first. Our overall target is to make sure all our homes on this estate have an energy efficiency 'band C'.
This customer's home had:
- Cavity Wall Extraction and Clean with Subsequent Re-insulation, ensuring the wall insulation is effective at retaining heat inside the home.
- Ventilation Upgrades. Installing extraction fans, ensuring window vents were functional and internal doors had a small gap below to enable adequate airflow, all of which are designed to reduce condensation and mould.
- Loft Insulation Top up, ensuring the insulation between the joists was sufficient, preventing heat loss through the ceiling/roof.
- Solar Panels. This particular home required solar panels to achieve the target EPC Rating, Band C - installed across two elevations to maximise the amount of electricity generated.

We're focusing on improving insulation with measures like:
- cavity wall insulation (removing old insulation and refilling your walls with a modern product)
- loft insulation (increasing the depth of any existing insulation or installing it in full if there isn't any)
- underfloor insulation (where it's technically possible, we are looking to insulate underneath any suspended timber ground floor)
- improve ventilation (this includes: replacing old or broken extract ventilation fans, making sure you have window trickle vents are that are up to standard and functional, and your internal doors have a small undercut to make sure you have airflow through your home).

Your home might already be at 'band C' or above. This doesn't mean that we won't need to do work to improve your home in the next couple of years though - we need to wait and see what new standards are approved by the government.
